Big Game Hunting
Riverview Lodge is one of the very few outfitters in New Zealand who specialise in true fair chase, free range, hunting. We operate hunts for Red Stag, Chamois and Bull Thar during the months April to August. The most productive time to hunt Red Stag is in late March and April as this is the time that stags are roaring during the rut and are easier to hunt.
The bull thar is one of the most sure footed animals on the planet and is really at home in rugged and mountainous terrain. They provide a true hunting challenge. Depending on the physical conditions of hunters we sometimes get dropped off up the mountains by helicopter to save excessive climbing.
The most agile animal in the Southern Alps, South Island, is without a doubt the chamois. This is a unique hunt in terrain not as rough as the Thar but still very exciting. Our area has some excellent trophies providing client satisfaction.
Riverview Lodge is located in Hanmer Springs and is the ideal location for the non hunting companion. Refer to Local Activities-Partners Program page. The Lodge staff will cater to their needs while the hunter is away in the field if they do not wish to join him.
